Study of Variations of Main Renal Artery.
Journal Title: Stanley Medical Journal - Year 2016, Vol 3, Issue 3
Abstract
Aim: To know the variations of main renal artery in human cadavers and to report the incidence. Materials and Methods: The study was performed on 25 human cadavers for a period of 3 years .The posterior abdominal wall was dissected to study the main arterial supply to kidneys Results : The following parameters were observed: 1. Origin : Both main renal arteries arises from abdominal aorta 2. Site of origin : In 24 cadavers the site of origin was from lateral surface of abdominal aorta .In 1 cadaver the left renal artery arose from anterolateral surface and the right renal artery from lateral surface. 3. Level of origin of both renal arteries : Right renal artery was cranial in origin to left in 44%, at the same level in 4 % and at the lower level in 52%. 4. Thelength of renal artery: The mean length of right renal artery was 41.6mm and left renal artery was 31.6mm. Conclusion : Anatomical knowledge of vascular variations is essential for the Clinicians to perform procedures such as renal transplantations ,renal vascular operations more safely and effectively. Legend -CT - coeliac trunk, SMA- superior mesentric artery, LRA-left renal artery,RRA-right renal artery, AA-abdominal aorta, RK- right kidney, LK –left kidney , RSRG - right supra renal gland, LSRG - left supra renal kidney, SRB- supra renal branch
