Study on the content of Cognitive Pilot Channel for network selection in heterogeneous networks

Abstract

Based on the Cognitive Pilot Channel (CPC) concept proposed in the European project E2R, a further study on the content of CPC is proposed in this paper. CPC broadcasts the performance parameters of the Radio Access Technologies (RATs) to the terminals. Hence, terminals can use the parameters to evaluate the state of the available networks’ load or the QoS networks will offer and then choose the most appropriate RAT to access to. Therefore, the time used to access to the network can be reduced. Moreover the successful probability of accessing to a network increases and the user’s QoS can also be improved.
