Study on The Effects of P-Delta in High Rise Structures
Journal Title: JOURNAL OF ADVANCED RESEARCH IN CONSTRUCTION AND URBAN ARCHITECTURE - Year 2018, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
P-delta effect is a secondary effect on the structure. It is also known as Geometric Non-linearity. As the slenderness of a structure increases the effect of P-delta will be more important. In this present paper, an attempt is made to carry out geometric non-linearity analysis high rise structures and alsoStudy of influence of core walls at corners and at the center of the framed structures on the magnification of internal forces due to geometric non-linearity. The structures ranging from 25 to 40 storeys have been modeled and analysed using ETABS software for gravity and seismic loads. Magnification of moments and storey displacements with and without p-delta effects is calculated and compared for all the models. From this study it is found that the p-delta effecs reduces when the core walls are installed at the center when compare to those installed at the edges.
