Studying the Relationship between Humor and Organizational Citizenship Behavior
Journal Title: International Journal of Academic Research in Accounting, Finance and Management Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 3, Issue 3
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between humor and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB). The study took place at Isfahan’s banks in Iran. A random sample of 276 employees was selected. This research was conducted using two separate questionnaires. Humor was assessed using the sense of humor questionnaire developed by Sadat Khoshouei et al. (2009). This Questionnaire uses 25 items to measure the five subscales. For OCB, questionnaire suggested by Bell and Menguc (2002) has been used. Structural equation modeling was conducted to test the hypotheses. The finding showed that the “sense of humor in stressful conditions”, “sense of humor in social relations” and “enjoyment of humor” (with a significant coefficient at 0.56, 0.27 and 0.39) had a significant effect on OCB and humor influences on OCB with a significant path coefficient at 0.68. The result of this study showed that humor can be considered as a predictor of OCB.
