Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 7, Issue 4
Abstract
Background:The present study was conducted to assess the relationship between the use of organophosphorate poisons and level of cholin esterase enzyme in the serum of greenhouse workers throughout Birjand city. This cross-sectional and case-control study was done on 48 pesticide sprayers of Birjand agriculture section (case group)and on 48 healthy individuals who head no exposure to pesticides. Then, for quantitative measurement of cholin estrase enzyme used enzymatic photometric method(according to DGKC or Germany’s Biochemistry society standard)was applied using quantitative diagnosis cholin esterase kit. Finally, the obtained data was analyzed by means of SPSS software (version 11.5) and p<0.05 was taken as the significant level. No significant difference was observed between mean activity of cholin esterase enzyme in the case and control groups(7129.4 2942.1 and 6925.6 1505.1,P= 0.21).Moreover, No significant difference was found between cholin esterase enzyme level and age and BMI.it is suggested that occupational health adepts and agricultural volunteers continuously teach pesticide sprayers to follow security points while spraying .it is recommended that the working shift of pesticide sprayers should be in the other week.
