Journal Title: Przegląd Historyczno-Oświatowy - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 3
Abstract
In 1915 the Russian-language Institute of Technology was replaced by the Polish-language Warsaw University of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska). The role of the WUT during very difficult periods in Polish history is presented in this paper. This main subject is preceded by a short history of the University, the tradition of which goes back to the 1820s. Subsequently, the participation of the WUT in the formation of the Second Republic of Poland, its activity during the Second World War and rebuilding after the war are described. The continuous educations of engineers, significant participation in the country’s industrialization, and the development of Polish research potential in technical sciences are strongly emphasised.
