Subclinical Thyroid Disease

Abstract
Subclinical thyroid diseases – Subclinical hypothyroidism & subclinical hyperthyroidism are clinical entities that include mild degree of thyroid dysfunction. Out of these two, subclinical hypothyroidism is more prevalent. The clinical significance of these entities is quite uncertain as a result there is no consensus yet on their diagnostic testing & possible treatment. The prevalence of this condition varies according to reference range for TSH and geographic or demographic factors. This review article focuses on definition, epidemiology, risk of progression of subclinical to overt disease, their possible effects on health outcomes & their management as well as adverse effects & management of subclinical thyroid disease in Pregnancy.
