Successful Tracheal Replacement with Acellular Aortic Graft in a Cow

Journal Title: Journal of Veterinary Advances - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 11

Abstract

Present study reports, successful tracheal segment replacement using acellular aortic graft of buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) origin in a 5-year old, crossbred Holstein-Friesian cow with post anastomotic tracheal stenosis. Under xylazine sedation and local analgesia, through midline cervical incision, the stenotic tracheal segment was exposed and resected. Defect was repaired with acellular aortic graft, supported by a plastic stent to prevent airway collapse. Postoperative complications were not observed in this animal during a 2.5 years follow-up examination.
