SUGGESTION OF A METHOD FOR TEACHING GRAMMAR TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS: CREATIVE DRAMA

Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2015, Vol 8, Issue 37

Abstract

Grammar is a discipline lying down the rules of a language. Grammar is of a great importance for the development and effective use of language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. Therefore, at schools, grammar subjects are taught at different grade levels. However, deciding which method(s) should be used to best teach grammar is still an important issue of debate. Methods that can enable students to use grammar rules in integration with other skills without getting bored should be selected. Particularly at elementary schools, creative drama is one of the methods that can be used to teach grammar intuitively and develop students’ social, psychomotor and mental skills by encouraging them to actively participate in grammar teaching activities. Thus, the importance of drama method in teaching of grammar subjects is investigated and sample creative drama plans are presented.
