Sulfation of metal-organic framework (MOF) nanocatalyst for esterification of oleic acid with methanol to produce biodiesel
Journal Title: Environmental Health Engineering and Management Journal - Year 2023, Vol 10, Issue 3
Abstract
Background: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represent tremendous potential as heterogeneous catalyst in renewable energy production. In this study, biodiesel production using the modified MOF nanocatalyst was investigated in the esterification reaction. Methods: MOF nanocatalyst was prepared using solvothermal method and modified through sulfation process. The nanocatalysts was characterized by XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM, N2 adsorption-desorption, and NH 3-TPD techniques. The performance of the nanocatalysts was evaluated in the esterification reaction of free fatty acid (FFA) at different operating conditions. Results: The results showed the high crystallinity, appropriate textural properties (995.6 m2g-1), well-adjusted acidity, and high hydrophobicity. The sulfation degree of 4 cc g-1 resulted in the best nanocatalyst, which led to the highest FFA conversion (97%) at the optimal conditions: methanol to FFA ratio of 10:1, 3wt.% nanocatalyst, 160 °C, and 6 hours. Surprisingly, the developed nanocatalyst had a great reusability while the conversion reduction was only 8% after six sequence cycles. Conclusion: These results proved the high capability of the developed nanocatalyst in the esterification reaction to produce biodiesel.

Investigating the relationship between the long-term exposure to air pollution and the frequency of depression in Shiraz during 2010-2017
Background: Exposure to environmental pollutants which have entered the atmosphere due to human and industrial activities results in harmful and unwanted effects on human health. The undesired effects of air pollution...
Comparing the ZnO/Fe(VI), UV/ZnO and UV/Fe(VI) processes for removal of Reactive Blue 203 from aqueous solution
Background: Wastewater contaminated with dyes such as Reactive Blue 203 can produce a lot of health problems if it is released into the environment without a suitable treatment. Although there are several studies on dye...
Environmental factors and machine learning for Alzheimer’s disease prediction

Deployment of performance indicators toward bridging monitoring gaps in Africa’s Great Green Wall
Background: The health and productivity of the land across the Sahel are in declension due to desertification. This has lowered the quality of ecosystem services and has led to a vicious cycle of drought, famine, pover...
Specific absorption rate of different phone brands and health students’ awareness, attitude, and performance towards mobile phone hazards
Background: This study aimed to assess the specific absorption rate (SAR) due to the exposure to the radiations from different brands of cellphones, and to compare it with guideline values. The SAR is calculated using...
