SURGICAL BIOCOMPOSITES WITH CHITOSAN
Journal Title: Progress on Chemistry and Application of Chitin and its Derivatives - Year 2009, Vol 0, Issue
Abstract
Reported are investigations in the formulation and preparation method of hydroxyapatite composites in form of glue, sponge and shaped products. Osteosynthesis ability, mechanical properties susceptiblity to biodegradation and biocompatibility of the prepared materials were assessed. It was found that, based on chitosan and hydroxyapatite, a material can be prepared with good gluing properties. Crucial is the useful form of chitosan and its physicalchemical properties like pH, polymer content and viscosity. 3 days from the application of the glue are required to complete osteosynthesiss both for porous and smooth bones which, a time acceptable in surgery for the fusion of bones. The glue joints in form of a film undergo enzymatic degradation in the presence of lysozyme. After 28 days action of the enzyme at a concentration of 200 mg/ cm3, the mass loss of the glue was about. 21%. From the compressed chitosan hydrroxyapatite sponge, elastic shaped products can be prepared presenting the potential use as defect fillers in maxillofacial surgery.

POTENTIAL USE OF CHITOSAN – BASED MATERIALE IN MEDICINE
Polysaccharides are macromolecular polymers that manifest ability toward the forming of fibres, film and coatings. Some of their specific properties like biodegradability and biocompatibility make them suitable for medic...
APPLICATIONS OF CHITOSAN–GRAPHENE OXIDE NANOCOMPOSITES IN MEDICAL SCIENCE: A REVIEW
Combinations of biopolymers with nanostructured carbon materials have been the subject of interest of many scientists in recent years. Particularly significant are nanocomposites made of chitosan, which is a linear amino...
PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF CHITOSAN COMPOSITES WITH SYNTHETIC POLYMERS AND INORGANIC ADDITIVES
In the present study the results of rheological measurements and atomic force microscopy (AFM) of polymer composites with montmorillonite (MMT) are presented. Chitosan is blended with synthetic polymers and inorganic add...
THE EFFECT OF CHITOSAN ON THE SYNTHESIS OF L-S-NITROSOCYSTEINE THAT PARTICIPATES IN THE REGULATION OF THE M2 PYRUVATE KINASE ISOENZYME ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH EHRLICH ASCITES CELLS PROLIFERATION IN VITRO
L-S-nitrosocysteine formation in EAT tumor cells and normal CRL-1636 cells incubated with microcrystalline chitosan was confirmed by RP-HPLC. The metabolite was identified based on UV-VIS spectra. The formation of L-S-ni...
THE INFLUENCE OF C18-FATTY ACIDS ON CHEMICAL STRUCTURE OF CHITOSAN DERIVATIVES AND THEIR THERMAL PROPERTIES
Chitosan derivatives with a series of fatty acids (FA) have been developed using simultaneous N- and O-acylation reaction by the combination of two ways of conducting the reaction, i.e. a carbodiimide catalysis and ionic...
