Synthesis and Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Nano TiO2 Particle Reinforced AL-MMC
Journal Title: International Journal of Mechanical and Production Engineering Research and Development (IJMPERD ) - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
The metal matrix Nano composites can be used in numerous applications. Aluminium Nano Matrix Composites (ANMC) is 25 to 30 % stronger in both mechanical and deformation behaviour than micro filler Aluminium Matrix Composites (AMC). To ameliorate performance of composite matrix in aluminium alloy metal is reinforced with Nano particles in the matrix of alloy uniformly, which ameliorates composite properties without affecting limit of ductility. The paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on mechanical properties of Nano sized Titanium-di-oxide (TiO2-p) particle reinforced aluminium metal matrix composite. The influence of reinforced ratios of 4, 8 and 12 wt. % of TiO2-p on mechanical properties was examined. The reinforcement particle sizes of the TiO2-p were in the range of 200 to 225 Nano meter and LM0 aluminium alloy wasere used as matrix. The composites were synthesized by Stir Casting method by using bottom pouring muffle furnace and Magnesium was added to the melt in order to improve the wettability of the composites. It was perceived that enhancement of Nano reinforcement element addition produced better mechanical properties such as hardness and tensile strength.
