SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF TiO2NANOCRYSTALS BY SOL-GEL METHOD AND STUDY THE EFFECT OF CALCINATION TEMPERATURE ON ITS PHOTOCATALYTIC ACTIVITY

Abstract
TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by a simple sol-gel method at different calcinations temperature. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction andUV visible spectroscopy techniques. Hydroxyl radicals (•OH) formation on the TiO2surface underUV light was detected by UV visible absorption spectroscopic technique. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of Methelene Blue (MB) aqueous solution under UVlight exposour. The results revealed that the TiO2 could be crystallized via sol-gel method. The absorption of light, the development rate of hydroxyl radicals, and photocatalytic degradation of MB aqueous solution were significantly improvedfor mixed phase instead of simple anatase or rutile phase.
