SYNTHESIS AND EVALUATION OF IODINATED PHENYTOIN FOR ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Pharmacy (IRJP) - Year 2014, Vol 5, Issue 3

Abstract

5,5-bis(4'-iodophenyl)imidazolidine-2,4-dione was prepared either by direct iodination of 5,5-diphenyl imidazolidin-2,4-dione (phenytoin) or through the iodination of phenytoin intermediates (benzoin and benzil) and follow-up the standard procedure used for conversion of them to phenytoin. The targeted compound was evaluated and compared with the antimicrobial activity of phenytoin.
