Synthesis and QSAR Studies of Some New Phthalyl Substituted 4–Thiazolidinones and Thiazoles as Potential Antibacterial Agents

Abstract

Literature survey has shown the biological potential of thiazoles and thiazolidinones .Hence some new phthalyl substituted 4-Thiazolidinones and thiazoles were synthesized to evaluate their behaviour. A QSAR study has also been performed in order to analyze the correlation between antibacterial activity and phyisco-chemical parameters. The structure of the synthesized compounds were determined on the basis of the elemental analysis and the spectral techniques of FTIR ,HNMR and Mass .The antibacterial screening of the thiazolidinones (4a-g) and thiazoles (5a–e) show moderate to good activity against the three strains E. coli, Pseudomonas aureus and Cytobacteria feruinddi at the higher concentration when compared with the standard drug Streptomycin . The QSAR study gives an average to good correlation between biological activity and hydrophobic (), electronic (, polar) and steric (MR) factors. The correlation study also supports the influence of the above parameters
