Synthesis, Characterization, Kinetics, Thermodynamic and Antimicrobial Studies of Fe(III), Cu(II), Zn(II), N,N'-Bis(2-hydroxy-1,2-diphenylethanone)ethylenediamine Complexes
Journal Title: Chemical Methodologies - Year 2019, Vol 3, Issue 0
Abstract
Schiff base ligand derived from benzaldehyde and ethylenediimine and its Fe(III),Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes were synthesized. The ligand N,N’-Bis(2-hydroxyl-1,2-diphenylethanone)ethylenediamine(B2HDE)and its complexes were characterized by molar conductivity, melting point, solubility test and spectrometrically (IR and UV-Vis). The Kinetics of complex formation obtained from a plot lnkobs verses 1/T, thermodynamic parameters were obtained from plots of ln(kobs/T) verses 1/T and antimicrobial activities of the ligand and its complexes were tested. The solubility results showed that B2HDE and its complexes were soluble in dimethylsulphoxide, dimethylformanide and acetone while the melting point of ligand and complexes showed they are fairly stable. The complexes molar conductivity indicated that they are non-electrolytes. The IR spectra showed a bidented ligand which coordinated through azomethine nitrogen and hydroxyl oxygen atom. UV-Vis results confirmed the complexation of the metal and ligand with a tetrahedral geometry for both complexes and the activation energy (Ea) obtained were positive Ea indicating that, the rate of formation increased with increasing temperature. The kinetic results showed that increase in time and temperature increased the yield of the complexes. The results of thermodynamics parameters showed the formation of an activated complex via an associative pathway. Antimicrobial studies results of complexes were higher than the one found for the free ligand.

Assessment of Cr(VI) Biosorption from Aqueous Solution by Artificial Intelligence
This work investigates the efficiency of date palm fiber as a biosorbent to the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. The effect of four main factors including, the initial pH, initial Cr(VI) concentration, biosorbent...
Semi-empirical Estimation of Rhodamine 6G’s Fluorescence Lifetimes from Fluorescence Quenching Data
The fluorescence quenching of rhodamine 6G by hydroquinone in methanol, water and dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) is explored. A combination of solvent parameter could be necessary to explain solvatochromism in rhodamine 6G as...
Effects of Freeze-drying and Freezing on Vitamins and Sugars of Mango Pulp (‘Apple’ Cultivar): A Preliminary Comparison of Methods for Improving Sample Storage
Mango (Mangifera indica L.) fruits are highly perishable ones whose important nutrients such as vitamins and sugars quickly decrease under storage. In this study, we compared two methods of fruit pulp storage; freezing a...
Prediction of the structural and spectral properties and reactivity of the silicon analogs of cyclobutadiene C4-nSinH4 (n=0-4) by density functional theory computations
In recent years, it has been noted that the silicon analogs of compounds have more pharmaceutical applications because of their more lipophilicity properties. The present research paper studies the structural and spectra...
