Synthesis of dimethyl ether from greenhouse gas CO2

Abstract
Petroleum resource is insufficient gradually, while there is a large amount of hydrogen in industry. Production of dimethyl ether (DME) from greenhouse gas CO2 and hydrogen is a possible way to solve above problems. For the DME synthesis process from CO2 and hydrogen, thermodynamic calculations are taken to analyze the process. It indicates that the DME equilibrium yield will increase with higher operation pressure and temperature. However, a better mild operation is a feasible way to synthesize DME. To carry out this process, methanol synthesized catalysts of CD501 and dehydrating methanol catalysts of HZSM-5 are mixed together to be used as one step DME production. A fixed bed reactor is used to realize this process to pilot research the DME production. The results indicate that the DME yield will increase with higher operation temperature in the reaction process. So basic data for DME synthesis from CO2 are obtained from the thermodynamic calculation and experimental, which is a foundation for studying and exploiting the advanced and effective techniques.
