Szkoła Powiatowa Wieluńska w raportach wizytatorów (1845-1860)

Abstract
During the partition of Poland, Russian authorities sought to standardise education in the Polish Kingdom (Congress Kingdom of Poland) along the lines of education in the Russian Em- pire. One method used by the Ministry of Public Enlightenment in Saint Petersburg to control education was having Tsarist officials visit schools in Poland. This article is based on reports on schools in Wieluń, drawn up in the years 1845-1856, and currently stored in the Russian State Historical Archive in Saint Petersburg. The reports include such information as the number of students, their behaviour and the manner of supervision; themethods and outcomes of learning; the work of teachers and their diligence; the state of theschool’s library and research tools; school registries, the state of buildings and their furnishings;and relations with the local administration.The Inspectors’ reports are a valuable source of information on the state of particular scho-ols as well as a broader issue – the practical implementation of educational policy in the Con-gress Kingdom of Poland during the time of the Polish uprisings.
