T-Scan III Computerized Occlusal Analysing System: Structure, functions and applications
Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2012, Vol 62, Issue 2
Abstract
In this paper, the structure, functions and applications of the T-Scan Computerized Analysis System for Dental Occlusion are presented. Since the time of its introduction by Maness in 1984, it has been upgraded three times. The recent fourth generation of the system is equipped with a high definition sensor, which assures the measurement precision and repeatability in static and dynamic occlusions. Unlike the articulating paper that indicates occlusal contacts only, electronic sensor provides information about the order of their appearance and relative occlusal forces. After sensor modification, it is possible to measure absolute occlusal forces expressed in Newtons. Among numerous applications of the system, T-Scan occlusion analysis in implanto-prosthetics is of particular value. This allows for precise occlusion adjustment, so that the time difference in the contact between the patient’s own opposing teeth and implant-based restorations accounts for approximately 0.4 s. This prevents overloading of the implants. The disocclusion time reduction of less than 0.4 s during excursions, decreases the chewing muscles tension in patients with bruxism. A major drawback of the T-Scan system is its high price, limiting its distribution among dental offices.

Influence of occlusal factors on complete denture stabilization
Properly made dentures have good stability and retention. Stabilization is defined as resistance of a denture to horizontal and rotational forces to protect it against movements. This is achieved by adjusting the denture...
