Abstract
Drama Ambitions and Unfulfilled Expectations. Review of: Anna Podstawka, Maciej Szukiewicz’s Dramaturgy, Lublin 2006 The reviews introduces and surveys Anna Podstawka’s Maciej Szukiewicz’s Dramaturgy (Lublin 2006). The book comprehensively presents Szukiewicz’s plays, while analysing their various aspects. In the first part Szukiewicz’s dramaturgy is synchronized with his biography, inscribed in the context of the Young Poland and the interwar period culture; in the second part, the writer’s accomplishments are reconsidered in the context of various currents and poetics, which leads to placing one text in the dialogue with other texts; finally in the third part, the same plays are characterized from the pragmatic point of view, while the critical and theatre criticism is examined. Thoroughly presenting Szukiewicz’s dramas, the publication brings their new, more reliable evaluation filling the gap in existing research literature.
