Tetrahydrobiopterin Concentrations in Normal and Coronary Artery Diseased Heart Tissue
Journal Title: Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiology - Year 2016, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Background: Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) is a cofactor that plays a major role in cardiovascular health and disease. BH4 levels in the human heart have not been previously reported. Objective and Methods: Using a novel LC-MS/MS method we measured BH4 and BH2 levels in human heart tissue from subjects with (n=19) and without (n=19) coronary artery disease (CAD). Results: The concentration of BH4 was significantly lower in CAD subjects compared to controls (p=0.0006). There was a trend for a decrease in BH4/BH2 ratio (p=0.09). mRNA expression of GCH1, NOS3 and QDPR was not significantly different between CAD and controls.

āCā Trouble: Class IC Anti-arrhythmic Toxicity
The most common cardiac arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice is atrial fibrillation (AFib). AFib has significant effects on long-term mortality and stroke, and contributes greatly to overall healthcare costs, affe...
Potential Arrhythmogenic Risk of DDI/DDD Pacing Modes During Atrial Fibrillation
In patients with paroxysmal-persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), DDI and DDD pacing modes can be used to assess the clinical burden of AF. This report shows how the DDI mode might trigger ventricular tachyarrhythmias dur...
The prevalence, clinical profile and surgical outcomes of children presenting with vascular ring and pulmonary sling
Background: Vascular anomalies are rare abnormalities which present with inspiratory stridor and recurrent respiratory tract infection. They are the commonest causes of mortality and morbidity in children due to misdiagn...

Echocardiographic Biatrial Remodelling and Diastolic Function Assessment in Long-Term Follow-Up after Typical Atrial Flutter Ablation
Background: A reverse left atrial (LA) remodelling after atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation has been reported and a relationship between diastolic function and AF is well known. However, there is little information about...
