THE ANALYSIS OF CAUSES OF WATERLOGGING AND SALT DESTRUCTION OF BANDINELLI PALACE BUILDING CONSTRUCTIONS IN LVIV
Journal Title: Вісник Львівського університету. Серія географічна - Year 2016, Vol 50, Issue
Abstract
In the article, the results of the complex study of geological environment and the status of the structural elements of monument are presented. A number of man-made minerals, in particular thenardite, gypsum, leveyit, vanthofit, mirabilite, is detected on the building stones of deepened rooms. Thenardite plays a leading role among them. It was established that the development of minerals is driven by the geological conditions which are conducive to the technological accumulation of water. Their specificity lies in the depth occurrence of the foundations of waterproof marl clay and unsatisfactory functioning of drainage and water supply systems, that leads to waterlogging of soil thickness, adjacent to foundation, and formation of technogenic aquifer layer. Under the favourable physical and chemical conditions a crystallization of sodium man-made minerals is taking place from the water enriched with ions of sodium, calcium and sulfate. Not only the presence of an aqueous solution of enriched sodium sulphate affects the possibility of their crystallization, but also temperature and humidity. Changes of micro-climatic conditions in basement of the palace are closely related to seasonal variations in town climate and microclimate of lodging. During heating season indoor air temperature is quite high and the relative humidity is low. It promotes thenardite crystallization. Instead, in spring-summer and summer-autumn period the relative humidity increases and the temperature decreases, when mirabilite is forming. Active development of technological processes leads to the destruction of mineral building stone in Palace walling constructions that build the need to take actions. Placement of vertical waterproofing or drainage ring is above all.
