The Analysis of The Story of "Büyük Kuş" In The Context of Feminist Criticism and Minor Literature: The Hollow Created By a Crosscurrent

Journal Title: Söylem Filoloji Dergisi - Year 2016, Vol 1, Issue 2

Abstract

“Büyük Kuş”, which is the fourth story of Yanık Saraylar published in 1965, is basically the story of experience of “femininity”-“otherness” in a male-dominated social order. In the text, the struggle of woman against the gendered sociocultural mechanisms or in other words, her survival effort and placelessness are told with an amorphous language. The story deconstructs grammar rules, punctuation marks, the linear continuity of sentences and adopts a fragmented narrative technique. In this context, the story of “Büyük Kuş” is a text that refuses the discourse and rules of masculine domination and tries to announce the voice of women labelled as “the second sex” by undermining the major language. Hence, it can be sait that it has various common features with minor literature. The negotiation of content and form in the text is also one of the main factors that establishs a bridge between the intellectual practices of feminist criticism and stylistic features of minor literature.
