THE ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGE OF SELECTED SCOTS PINE STANDS BY PORODAEDALEA PINI IN TUCHOLA FOREST DISTRICT

Journal Title: Zarządzanie ochroną przyrody w lasach - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

Red ring rot caused by the fungus Porodaedalea pini is a serious problem from the point of view of the forest economy in Europe. The rot attacks the hard part of trunk and it is not detected before the felling of the tree and it causes enormous economic losses. One can suppose that about 8% of gained pine felling product consists of rotten wood. The main objective of the presented studies was the determination of the occurrence of Scots pine stands threatened by red ring rot. Symptoms were detected on 39 trees. Because of the small settlement of trees by Porodaedalea pini (0.56%) there is no risk for these stands.
