THE BASIN OF ÇATILI SUYU AND THE GEOMORPHOLOGY OF IT’S IMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT (HASSA)
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 52
Abstract
Çatılı Suyu, which collects the water of Hassa District, constitutes the downward watercourse of Karasu Çayı. The seasonal watercourses using the eastern slope of the Amanos Mountains as a source constitutes Çatılı Suyu by combining in graben line. The seasonal watercourses sprung from the Amanos Mountains have the features of rapid flow and overflow. Therefore the Amanos Mountains have quite undulating surface. The tectonic fractures leading the graben line have an effect of causing certain changes in the area. Particularly the volcanic cases occurred on faultlines 260-50 thousand years ago caused the dislocation of Karasu valley to east, the formation of a flat profile related to the spread of basalts in graben line, the covering of the previous alluvions with basalts, the emerging the structures of lava flows and the deriving of pyroclastic spattering cones. The progressing tectonic movements caused the mountain having a staged structure, the emergence of grabbing events by certain translatory motions and the re-raising of alluvial cones. This study aims at both revealing the affects of active tectonic movements on geographical formations and being a referance to the plannigs towards the land use. For this reason, intense land works and the necessary measurings have been carried out. The area evaluations have been transferred to the 1/25.000 scaled maps obtained from HGKs. After reviewing all the works carried out in the area, the study has been completed.
