The Belarusian People’s Republic in 1918

Abstract

In the article the conditions and factors that contributed to the creation of the Belarusian People’s Republic in 1918 are considered. Specifics of geopolitical changes in the Belarusian lands are reflected in connection with the conclusion of the Brest Peace Agreement on 3 March 1918. The author analyzed the approaches of different political groups to the problem of self-determination of Belarus, the search for possible allies among the large states and governments of neighboring countries. The activities of the BPR aimed at preserving the territorial integrity of Belarus, international recognition of the new state formation, attempts of national cultural revival of the country are revealed.
