THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ROMANIAN PUBLIC SPHERE AND THE POSTDECEMBER CONFIGURATION OF SOCIAL STRUCTURE

Abstract

The Romanian Revolution of 1989 radically and rapidly changed the configuration of Romanian society. The fall of the Communist system opened a new perspective. The social categories and groups that existed during Communism received a new profile and a set of new functions in the horizon opened by the fall of the Communist regime in 1989. The main social categories that existed before 1989 were represented by: the Communist politica class, the workers, the peasants and the intellectuals. The destiny of these categories follwed different paths after 1989.
