The cognitive notion of possession category

Abstract
The article deals with one of the universal conceptual category of the language – possession category that is studied on the material of the different languages (Russian, Azerbaijani, French, English) in the comparative plan. The article contains a review of the different scientists’ scientific views of possessioncategory from the cognitive standpoint; the concrete examples and facts show that possession can be expressed by the language means of the different levels and they are individual for each language. When tracing the reflection of possessive relations in the different languages their similarities and distinctions are revealed and explained. Possession is considered to be reflection of peculiarities of the national world outlook and mentality.
