The Concept of Water Feeling, Its Significance, Determining Conditions and Formation in the Opinion of Coaches of Various Swimming Sports
Journal Title: Antropomotoryka. Journal of Kinesiology and Exercise Sciences - Year 2003, Vol 13, Issue 26
Abstract
The training used in swimming is extremely time-consuming at present. It is characterised by substantial loads and an uninteresting structure. It requires the covering of a dozen or so kilometres a day. Considerable success in this discipline is achieved by competitors featuring high level of co-ordination endurance and psychical resistance. They also complain about the toughness of the training in interviews they give. In order to maintain the popularity of this vital for every man sport discipline, it is indispensable to modernise the swimming training, and especially to decrease the loads used. One of the efficient ways of doing that is to give priority to the most important part of it, which is water feeling. Its great significance is frequently indicated by authors of publications and by coaches. Unfortunately, there are more words than facts. The knowledge of practitioners in this field may exceed all the information collected by researches. In order to check this assumption, a survey based on a questionnaire was conducted among 24 researchers of various swimming sports. Their aim was to define the concept of water feeling , its significance, determining conditions and ways of its forming. The training experience of those questioned ranged from 5-32 years, and the age between 28-48. The questionnaire consisted of 13 questions and was of anonymous character. The opinions of those surveyed provided interesting material concerning the components of water feeling ,ways of evaluating its level, determining conditions and its formation. On the basis of information obtained, it is possible to carry out significant modifications in the hitherto applied training.
