Journal Title: Marife Dini Araştırmalar Dergisi - Year 2014, Vol 14, Issue 1
Abstract
The term al-hamiyyah is a reactionary response shown by someone who considers that his possessed values were attacked. In contrast, the term al-Sakinah (tranquility) is expressed to get rid of the effects of various negative emotions and to have an appropriate emotional attitude. It is possible to evaluate the use of the term al-Sakinah in surah al-Bakara, verse 248, together in the use of the hadiths in the same framework. The verses in which the term al-Sakinah is mentioned can be interpreted in accordance with "emotional education" or "emotional intelligence". On the occasion of the events mentioned in the Quran the Muslims who lived during the period of the revelation of the Quran were subject to an emotional training. Allah has sent down His tranquility upon His slaves is being fulfilled through the ways of faith, effort, intellect and will of the believers. Therefore, al-Sakinah is an important term suggesting emotional training for Muslims today.
