The Conceptualisation Process of Parenthesis with the Emergent Modelling Perspective
Journal Title: Journal of Computer and Education Research - Year 2019, Vol 7, Issue 13
Abstract
The objective of this study is to examine the student’s process of using mathematical symbols with the emergent modelling perspective. The study is a fenomologic case study. Model eliciting and model adaptation activity conducted two times consecutively within four months. Data collection tools were audio recordings and student’s study notes during the modelling process, student’s and parent’s interview records and researcher’s observation notes. The question “what is the individual`s experiment?” aimed for seeking an answer considering a student`s performance in the modelling process. Findings were interpreted in the circle of “model of” and “model for” process with the new modelling perspective. The results obtained showed that through the findings of the student`s measurements with standard and nonstandard measures, the groups were formed by the participant and this formation led using the symbol of parenthesis.
