The construction of an international environmental regime for ports
Journal Title: Conjuntura Austral: journal of the Global South - Year 2018, Vol 9, Issue 45
Abstract
More than a gateway, ports are actors that generate flows - merchandise, income, work - and whose activities impact the environment of diverse forms. By its peculiar position that crosses the scales local, national and global, the ports both act and are influenced by these different scales. This article seeks to analyse if there would be a set of rules and principles capable of contributing to an international regime aimed at dealing with the port sector in a globalized world and seeking the sustainability of the activities of this sector. The study is analytical, with a descriptive and qualitative approach, using bibliographical and documentary references. The work shows that there is already an internationally established regime that links the behaviour of ports to the environmental issue and promotes environmental port awareness.
