The content of chemical substances in bark and wood of trunk, brunches and main Root of single-seeded hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.)

Abstract

The content of chemical substances in bark and wood of trunk, brunches and main Root of singleseeded hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) Contents of extractives, mineral substances, cellulose, 1% NaOH soluble substances and lignin were examined. Analysis was made for wood and bark of trunk (0.1 m, 2.4 m and 5 m height of the trunk) as well as main branches and roots in pith adjacent wood, outer wood and bark. Samples were gained from about 40-year old single-seeded hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) which was grown in Ist Bałtycka region. Investigated substances distribution on the cross-section and along the trunk is similar to their distribution in the trunk of birch (Betula pendula Roth.) The bark of trunk as well as main branches and roots contains lower amount of cellulose, 1% NaOH soluble substances and higher amount of extractives, mineral substances and lignin in relation to wood.
