The Correlation between Malondialdehyde Level with Vitiligo Severity
Journal Title: Clinical Dermatology Open Access Journal - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue 6
Abstract
Background: Vitiligo is an idiopathic disorder characterized by macular hypopigmentation due to melanocyte impairment and the absence of melanin production. There is an antioxidant-prooxidant ratio shift involved in oxidative stress. Malondialdehyde (MDA) is a stable product of lipid peroxidation and is a biologic marker of the increased oxidative stress. VASI is a parametric quantitative score that is sensitive to evaluate the degree of vitiligo severity. Objective: To determine the correlation between oxidative stress with vitiligo severity Methods: An analytical observational cross sectional study with consecutive sampling design Result and Conclusion: There is a positive and significant correlation (p=0.001; r=0.94) between MDA plasma level and the degree of vitiligo severity based on Vitiligo Area Severity Index (VASI).

The “Rainbow Pattern” and “Crystalline Structures” in a Post-Traumatic Scar
Dermoscopy is a noninvasive diagnostic technique, which is performed in vivo and increases the possibility of diagnosis in both pigmented and non-pigmented lesions. We report the case of a patient with a scar of particul...

Drug-induced onycholysis is a rare, unpredictable, but severe event, whose pain and discomfort is hardly affordable, impairing manual activities or ambulation. Patient’s quality of life might be severely compromised, and...
Ungueal Psoriasis: A Single Nail Affected
Nail involvement is an extremely common feature of psoriasis and affects approximately 10-78% of psoriasis patients, while isolated nail psoriasis occurs in 5-10% of patients. We communicate a patient whose case represen...
Erythropoietic Protoporphyria. A Major Skin Involvement
Erythropoietic Protoporphyria (EPP) is a relatively rare disease [1], probably less so than the rare acute intermittent porphyria. Virtually all patients with EPP are symptomatic as young children. For example, a 10-year...
