Journal Title: Здоров`я дитини - Year 2015, Vol 8, Issue 68

Abstract

In adolescents with diffuse nontoxic goiter (DNG), who live in the condition of mild iodine deficiency, in a questionnaire study there was analyzed the diet and its influence on the level of vitamins and minerals. It was found that the deficiency of food fish and meat is accompanied by a decrease in the level of B1, B2 and E vitamins. Use for cooking iodine salt was associated with higher levels of selenium and vitamin A in adolescents with DNG. Goiter degree II–III was rarely diagnosed among them. The inclusion of products of animal origin, seafood and iodine salt in the diet of children and adolescents, who live in the condition of a mild iodine deficiency, is necessary for the prevention and treatment of DNG. In case of combined deficiency of iodine, selenium, and vitamins, especially in the absence of adequate nutrition, the complex therapeutic measures must include preparations of potassium iodide, selenium, vitamins A and group B.
