THE CRISIS OF THE MODERN MAN IN THE CONTEXT OF SECULARIZATION AND A POSSIBLE ANSWER FROM A TRANSDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE

Journal Title: Revista de Administratie Publica si Politici Sociale - Year 2010, Vol 1, Issue 4

Abstract

The human being is permanently in search for meaning: the meaning of his life, the meaning of daily events, and most of all, the meaning of its sufferance. The process of secularization affects the meaning making process by eliminating the spiritual dimension of man, and the consequences, as emphasized by Mircea Eliade, Carl Gustav Jung or Viktor Frankl are disastrous, all leading to the alienation of man and the possibility of self destruction. The transdisciplinary approach is discussed here in relation to the possibility of recuperating this meaning. The consideration of a spiritual dimension of human, as well as of democracy might be a viable solution against the “existential vacuum” due to the loss of meaning.
