The Degree of E-Resources Use by Graduate Students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan and the Difficulties they Face from their Perspective

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the degree of e-resources use by postgraduate students of the faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan and the difficulties they face from their perspective. The population of the study consisted of all graduate students (1096), of which(450) students were chosen randomly, (418) of them responded (92.8%), a questionnaire was developed and tested for its validity and reliability. Results revealed that the total degree of students use of e-resources was estimated moderate, and that one of the use dimensions (methodology used in accessing e-resources) was estimated high, while its other five dimensions (form of information, ways of accessing e-resources, language use, forms, used, ways of gaining use skills) were estimated moderate. Results also showed that respondents use two ways for accessing eresources: search engines, and e-resources sites, and that they most use: full text and abstracts, e-resources Arabic, e-journals and e-books, and that the most important purposes of using those resources were: preparing homework’s, support classroom lectures, and make use of published research results. Results also showed that significant differences (a≤0.05)were found due to level of study and specialization, where no statistical significant differences were found due to gender, and that respondents face three main difficulties in using-resources, which are: lack of advertising them to students, rejection of research papers copied from the Internet, and the lack of training on database search from the university library.
