Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Impacted upper canines are thesecond most frequently impacted teeth in the maxilla. Thepresence of upper canine is very important for face estheticsthroughout supporting of nasal-labial rut and shapingof dental arch. Owing to a clinical investigation and radiographswe can define the presence and position of impactedtooth. THE AIM: of work was the gathering of informationwhich themed localizations of that canine. This paperdescribes indices used for assessing the position of impactedcanines on radiographs which are made as a routinecomplement of clinical examination. MATERIALS ANDMETHODS: In the work we use the literature in which themost often indices dealing with impacted maxillary canine and tool in orthodontic diagnostics are used. To search out adequate articles the authors used an internet database suchas Pub Med, Medline, EBSCO. The key words were: impactedteeth , indices, panoramic radiographs, permanentupper canine. For realization of the aim of this study thepanoramic views for visualization described indexes havebeen used. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: 33 articleswere selected for the sake of their consideration with thesubject of investigations. Authors have also used panoramicviews of patients from the Orthodontic Department ofthe Pomeranian Medical University. CONCLUSIONS: 1.Among the impacted teeth the greatest importance has anupper canine. The quantity of studies dealing with the impactionof canine proves that researches are interested aboutthe methods of its regain is still inquiring. 2. Panoramicviews are the main and common source of informationabout impacted canine position; they can be supported bybitewings and more rarely – dental radiographs and anotherup to date radiological techniques. 3. Described indexesof impacted canine position back clinical investigation andmake easier its objective localization, and elevate the informativevalue of two-dimensional panoramic views. (Orthod.
