The Effect of Different Irrigation Water pH on Root and Shoot Development in Mulberry Green Cuttings
Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2023, Vol 7, Issue 2
Abstract
In this study, the effects of irrigation water pH of white mulberry green cuttings on different root and shoot processes were investigated. After the green cuttings taken in July were treated with 6000 mg/L (ppm) IBA, they were planted in boxes containing perlite and watered at 4 different pH (6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5) values in the controlled climate chamber. Irrigation was carried out 2 or 3 times a week for 90 days. Rooting rate (%), root number (number), root length (cm), shoot number (number) and shoot length (cm) were determined in cuttings extracted from rooting medium. Rooting success and number of shoots were obtained at the pH level of 7.0, which is considered neutral, and the best results in terms of shoot length were obtained from cuttings irrigated with a pH of 6.5. As a result of the research, it was determined that mulberry cuttings irrigated with different pH levels have importance on rooting and shoot length.
