Journal Title: Uluslararası Ekonomi ve Yenilik Dergisi - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows subscribers to change the carrier without changing their phone number. In this study, the economic effect of MNP on market price and competition in Turkey is examined. MNP in Turkey was implemented in 09 November 2008 by Information Technologies and Communications Authority. This is the first study that examines the effects of MNP by econometric analysis on price and market competition in Turkey. In the study, the quarterly data from the Turkish mobile telecommunication sector between 2008 and 2015 are used. According to the results; the prices have decreased and market competition has increased by MNP in Turkey. Furthermore, market followers seem to respond more than incumbents do when MNP is introduced. Expected change in market shares has not been practiced; however, the market competition has increased in Turkey.
