The Effect of Moving Sales outside of the Country on the Liquidity of a Business – the Example of XYZ Company
Journal Title: Zeszyty Naukowe Wydziału Zamiejscowego w Chorzowie Wyższej Szkoły Bankowej w Poznaniu - Year 2016, Vol 18, Issue
Abstract
This paper aims to investigate how a company’s level of liquidity is affected by domestic sales and intra-EU community supply of goods, respectively. The advantages of zero- rated intra-Community supply of goods over VAT-taxable domestic sales are brought out. Based on an analysis of financial results, differences in cash requirements are indicated between the two cases. It is thus demonstrated that differences in the cost of capital that needs to raised to cover tax liabilities can be an important factor of competitiveness for companies with low equity capitalization and limited access to external financing. In addition, the impact of macroeconomic factors, such as e.g. public expenditure on increasing the competitiveness of domestic companies vis-à-vis companies from other European Union countries operating in the local market, is highlighted by exploring the differences in funding requirements between these two types of companies when transacting business with deferred payment terms.
