THE EFFECT OF OIL CONSUMPTION AND OIL PRICES ON CO2 EMISSIONS IN THE INDUSTRIAL SECTOR

Abstract

In recent years, environmental pollution and global climate changes have occurred due to increased carbon dioxide emissions in the world. In terms of minimizing these problems economic policies such as carbon capture and storage, carbon tax and carbon trading are applied. In addition, global initiatives such as the Kyoto Protocol and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are also included. Moving from the importance of carbon emissions, in this study, in the industrial sector in OECD countries; carbon emissions, oil consumption and oil prices have been analyzed using the Panel Data Method for the period 1996-2011. The PMG, CCEMG and AUG estimators have shown that in the long term, increases in oil consumption have increased carbon emissions. In addition to this, PMG estimator results showed that oil prices reduced carbon emissions in the long term and increased in the short term.
