The Effect of The Intelligence Game Played on Elderly People in The Elderly on Cognitive Skills, Loneliness and Psychological Well-Being of Elderly in The Nursing Home

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a box game supporting cognitive skills on cognitive skills of the elderlys loneliness, psychological well-being and. The research was designed as a "trial model". The independent variable in the study is gaming "Sil Baştan" which supports the cognitive skills applied to the experimental group between pre-test and post-test. The dependent variables of the study are the loneliness, psychological well-being and cognitive skill levels of the elderly. "Pre-test-post-test control group experimental design" will be used in order to see how the box game which applied to the research affects the loneliness, psychological well-being and cognitive skills of elderly individuals. The research was conducted in a private nursing home together the participation of 65 years of age and older. This study was conducted with 16 elderly individuals, 8 of whom were experiment and 8 of whom were controls. In the study, the "Personal Information Questionnaire" was developed.To measure the level of loneliness of participants in the study. Developed by Russell et al. (1978) developed the of the Turkish version of the UCLA Loneliness Scale consisting of 20 items and one dimension made by Demir (1989), 14 items adapted to Turkish by Keldal (2015) developed by Tennant et al. The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale. (MOCA) adapted to by Selekler and Cangöz (2009), developed by Nasreddine et al. (2005), was used to measure cognitive abilities. Mann Withney U Test and Wilcoxon Paired Couple Marked Sequence Numbers test was applied to the experimental and control groups in order to compare the scores obtained before and after the application. As a result of the research, it was found that the game developed cognitive skills, lowered the level of loneliness and improved psychological well-being.
