The Effect of Tool Geometry on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Friction Stir Processed MIG-Welded Aa5083-H111
Journal Title: IOSR Journal of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (IOSR-JMCE) - Year 2018, Vol 15, Issue 4
Abstract
In this research, three different tool geometries (pinless, cylindrical and square pin) were developed to study the effect of friction stir processing (FSP) tool geometry on microstructure and mechanical properties of metal inert gas (MIG) welds 5083-H111 aluminum alloy. MIG welds and FSP specimens were evaluated using microstructure examination, tensile, and hardness tests. The microstructure investigation of FSP specimens reveals a very fine grain size in the processed zone, and reduction of welds defects compared to MIG welds. FSP of weld surface without reinforcement improved the tensile strength when compared with MIG welds, when pinless tool is used. In addition, the processed zone record higher hardness values than the base metal as well as the MIG welds.

Simulation of Physiological Non-Newtonian Blood Flow through 3-D Geometry of Carotid Artery with Stenosis
A numerical simulation has been performed to investigate blood flow behavior of three dimensional idealized carotid arteries. Non-Newtonian flow has been taken for the simulation. The wall of the vessel is considered to...
Partial Replacement of Cement with Burnt Rice Husk Ash for Low Strength Concrete Production.
Nigeria, one of the leading African countries in economy makes use of sandcrete blocks and concrete for various types of structure in the construction industry. Thereby making cement expensive and unaffordable for many i...
Experimental Study on Geopolymer Concrete
The use of Portland cement in concrete construction is under critical review due to high amount of carbon dioxide gas released to the atmosphere during the production of cement. In recent years, attempts to increase the...

This paper describes the design analysis of a nail making machine which can be used to enhance nail productionfor the cottage industry. It is also designed to manufacture special shaped nails such as linoleum nails, roof...
Revitalizing the moment distribution method: A fast and exact analysis of multi-bay, multi-story frames
The conventional moment distribution method is revitalized with a new approach which requires only one-cycle of balance and carry-over and no iteration. For a continuous beam, the method begins by assuming the value of t...
