The Effect of Vermicompost on The Yield of Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) and Some Soil Properties

Journal Title: ÇOMÜ Ziraat Fakültesi Dergisi - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 1

Abstract

In the experiment, the effect of some plant and soil characteristics using different doses of vermicompost organic fertilizer was investigated. In study, vermicompost as a fertilizer material, spinach is used as plant material. Growth medium 6 doses (0; 0,1; 0,2; 0,3; 0,4 and 0,5 ton/ha) of vermicompost and soil was obtained by mixing. In the experiment; yield, plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, plant weight, root weight and yield/root weight ratio, in the soil; soil reaction, the amount of water-soluble salts, lime, organic matter, phosphorus and potassium properties were investigated. As the amount of vermicompost applied as a result; yield, plant height, leaf length, leaf width, plant weight and root weight from the plant properties increase and it is determined that a significant change in the statistical sense. It has increased along with the increase in the amount of vermicompost values, but the number of sheets was not significant in statistical terms. Yield/root weight ratio of the amount of vermicompost generally decreased but showed no statistical difference in meaning. The soil properties; differences between soil acidity and phosphorus levels were significant in terms of statistics. Vermicompost application of water soluble salts, lime, was the change in the amount of organic matter, but there was no significant statistical significance.
