THE EFFECTIVENESS OF NATURE AND LANDSCAPE PRESERVATION IN PRIVATE FORESTS OF KUJAWY AND POMERANIA

Abstract
The area of private forests in Poland is systematically increasing. They play more and more important role in the cultural landscape as environmental islands and ecological areas. They are sanctuaries for many kinds of protected species of plants and animals and significant part of them play water-conserving and soil-protecting functions. The author of the paper decided to have a closer look at their functioning from the point of view of nature protection. The analysis was based on the impact forecasts of simplified forest management plans on the natural environment in selected districts of kujawsko-pomorskie province. Simultanously, the paper answers the question whether the simplified forest management plans (SFMP) adhere to the regulations included in the Act on forests dated 28th Sept. 1991, especially in environmental protection. Field research and planning document analysis led to a conclusion that information included in SFMP is too simplified and does not fulfil the requirements of the Act. This does not refer to the Natura 2000 areas, where there exists a formal obligation to carry out the strategic assessment of the forest management plans on environment according to the Act of 3rd Oct. 2008. Despite the assumption that in private forests, outside Natura 2000, the share of natural habitats and protected, rare and endangered species is lower, according to the author, there is a need to increase information resources on nature protection, especially, in the forests within landscape parks and on the area of protected landscape.
