THE EFFECTS OF MANGIFERIN ON METABOLIC SYNDROM: THE COLLABORATIVE META-ANALYSIS COMBING WITH ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS

Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 12

Abstract

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a main public health problem worldwide, but the major mechanism of MS still remains elusive. Insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and oxidative stress are critical to MS. Mangiferin (MG), a natural polyphenol, has been shown to have anti-hyperlipidemia, anti-hyperglycemia, anti-oxidant, and anti-diabetic effect. The aim of this study was to review the effects of MG on MS and explore the mechanism through meta-analysis combing with animal experiments. We evaluated 15 research studies of the protective effects of MG in MS. And, twenty male C57BL6/J mice were randomly assigned to the normal diet group, the high-fat diet group, the fenofibrate group and the mangiferin group. In the current study,MG decreased lipid profile, glucose, insulin, and malonaldehyde (MDA) levels; increased glucose tolerance, insulin tolerance, superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione (GSH) levels; regulatedmRNA expression of carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1 (CTP-1), sterol regulatory element binding protein 1c (SREBP-1c) and acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACC). These results suggested that MG modulated MS by multiple metabolic processes including gluconeogenesis, glycolysis, lipogenesis, lipolysis and oxidative stress, all of which are regulated by genes expression involved in glucose and lipid metabolism.
