The efficiency of yield estimation on the basis of field trials with winter rapeseed of different number of replications
Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2012, Vol 33, Issue 2
Abstract
In 2008/2009 and 2009/2010, two series of field experiments with winter rapeseed were carried out in six environments to assess new breeding lines. In the first series the yielding of 23 winter rapeseed lines and two standard varieties were evaluated; in the second series the focus was on the yielding of 22 restored F1 hybrids of winter rapeseed and three standard varieties. Each field experiment was replicated four times in complete block designs. The evaluation of the examined strains was performed using synthetic elaboration of yielding results based on the general variance analysis which allowed to assess experimental error, determine genotype variability, environment variability and the interaction of genotypes with the environment. Mean square for experimental error ranged from 3.20 to 6.12.Subsequently, the same data set was used in repeated general variance analysis with one replication removed (thus, four variants of experiments with 3 replications have been obtained) and with two replications removed (three variants of experiments with 2 replications have been analysed). In this way the results obtained from the experiments were like the results that could be obtained from three or two replications. Mean square for experimental error for four variants of experiments with three replications ranged from 4.10 to 8.65, for three variants with two replications ranged from 5.22 to 12.79.To evaluate compatibility of the results of mean yields obtained on the basis of experiments with four, three and two replications correlation coefficients have been calculated. Highly significant compatibility was revealed for the results from the experiments with four and three replications – the coefficients ranged from 0.92 to 0.98. Yet, the results obtained from the experiments of two replications were not always compatible. Also it has been examined whether in case of the selection performed on the basis of three or two replications the same strains will be chosen as in case of the experiments with four replications. Great compatibility has been obtained in case of experiments with four and three replications.
