The evaluation of newborn care in the relationship between maternity hospital and basic health net

Abstract
Public policies of child care have sought to broaden the approach to care beyond the biomedical model, considering the child in its multiple relationships, family and life context, in order to access to health services and comprehensive care. This study aimed to evaluate the care practice of the nursing staff of a program of health care for the newborn with a focus on articulation of hospital care with primary care network. Qualitative study conducted in three maternity hospitals in Ribeirão Preto/SP through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation. Empirical data were grouped to identify the meaning units and elucidate aspects of the process of work. We observed the host as a guide of activities, counter-reference to mother and child to health unit, guidelines on newborn screening, vaccination and encourage and support breastfeeding. Newborns identified with risk for development have been scheduled in specialized service. Since its inception, this program has been made in unifying strategy that seeks to articulate the hospitals and basic health services, focusing on ensuring comprehensive care to maternal and child population, to facilitate access to health services and continuity of care.
