THE EVALUATION OF SULPHURIC ACID WATER SOLUTION INFLUENCE ON THE STATE OF EPOXY COATING SURFACE

Abstract

The paper presents the examination results concerning the influence of (3, 10, 20)% sulphuric acid water solutions on the erosive wear of epoxy coatings. Chemical structure change of aged coatings was stated as the result of their essential oxidation. It caused a coating brittleness increase that contributed to cohesion loss between fillers, pigments, and epoxy material. In the next stage, their release from coating surface layers occurred. It contributed to an essential increase of the surface roughness of aged coatings which was the higher, and the aggressive medium concentration was higher, and the period of its action longer. The destruction of the coating surface caused blistering, cracking, and crater generation. The ageing essentially increased the erosive wear intensity of examined coatings.<br/><br/>
